Description

This software allows you to visually participate in the regattas, from any location, overcoming the difficulties due to the little space available around the race course.

In addition to a real time view of the race, the software is designed to let participants watch their race again at any time, and through an information dashboard, see the effect of the decisions taken on the basis of physical data, such as the wind and other weather conditions.

The software easily integrates with any type of transponder that can transmit its coordinates obtained from the GPS module, through GPRS or UMTS Internet connection. If no specific equipment is available, the exchange of coordinates can be made using any mobile phone that can connect to a GPS antenna. In this way, using Java applets, NMEA coordinates received from the GPS module will be transmitted, via socket (client server on TCP-IP) or via HTTP. For viewing the race in history mode, SMS can be used to communicate the coordinates. Returned data can be displayed on a Personal Computer or PDA (mobile). Physical connectivity:

Data Aggregation

The data received from the satellite are already timestamped according to NMEA standard communications protocol; this allows for a faithful reproduction of the race in replay mode, including when the connection has taken place only at the end of the race.

The race

Registration

Each UMTS or GPRS card has its own specific IMEI number through which, after registering with the race system, the transmitter is uniquely identified.

The race course

The server is responsible for recording the coordinates it receives and displays them on a graphical outline of the race which is mapped through the detection of key points such as the buoys (shown on the screen) and the race course.

Viewing the race

The race can be viewed using two main technologies:

Flash

It ensures reliable Client / Server Communication via Socket package.

The Flash Client can interact with the server requesting the current location, the Review or Replay mode, send or receive the race message queues (i.e., the various positions of the boats) and display them with scenarios with which users can interact (zoom in on the race course, scrolling the race course).

.Net

The .Net version uses the HTTP Get and Post system, makes polling requests overcoming the problems associated with Firewalls and Proxy Servers
