Key2 and Microsoft hosts Italian delegation, Abu Dhabi Police, Kuwaiti MOI, Turkish national security.
IDEX is an international defense exhibition and conference in the MEA region which demonstrate the latest technology across land, sea and air sectors of defense. It provides a unique platform to establish and strengthen relationships with government departments, businesses and armed forces throughout the region. As the leading defense event for region, IDEX attracts 60,000 of attendees from across the world and the surrounding regions of the Middle East, Africa and Asian Subcontinent; including officials and decision makers from Asia, Europe, America and Australia.
This year, for the first time, Microsoft participated in IDEX 2013 as an exhibitor and actually built and manned a Microsoft Booth. We had three primary goals behind this effort: (1) brand the Microsoft name as a sound option for IT solutions in defense and security space; (2) raise our level of engagement beyond the CIO by engaging with senior operational decision makers; and (3) provide a platform for our smaller partners to showcase key defense/security niche solutions.
We successfully accomplished all three goals.
The simply presents of a Microsoft’s booth at the conference generated a lot of attention. Visitors had one of two questions: When did Microsoft get into the defense business. And/or what does Microsoft have to offer defense/security customers? We had over one hundred genuine customer/partner engagements during the 4 days; 25 of the 100 engagements resulted in real follow up business opportunities (detail discussion below). We also conducted and media campaign spear headed by Jennifer Steele which included daily advertisements in Jane’s, live tweets and a brief press release http://www.ihs.com/events/exhibitions/idex-2013/news/feb-21/Cross-agency-collaboration.aspx.
We had several key senior level visitors from difference organizations including the Abu Dhabi Police, the Kuwaiti Minister of Interior, two Italian Delegations (including 4 star Admiral, 3-star General, Under Secretary), the US Advisor to the UAE Presidential Guard, the Omani Special Forces and the UAE MOI.
We provided a great platform of four of our partners to display their key niche offerings: from four partners: Twisted Pair’s WAVE communications solution; Key2Business Armament Program Management Systems (APMS) and Windows 8 Aviator Slate; Dell’s ruggedized devices; Systematic’s SitaWare Frontline solution; and our Global Security Operations Center solution.
The Demos: Microsoft Showcases Technology Partners Delivering Critical Tools for Mission Success.
