Small computing grows

Rome – May 23.

Child-friendly informatics: this is the goal of Scratch, a project of the Lifelong Kindergarten Group of the MIT Media Lab, specifically designed for the ages of 8 and 16.

The starting point is that computer science nowadays is an integral part of our life and it is necessary, or maybe even indispensable, that all, even the youngest, can move within this reality in a conscious and effective way.

Our colleague Francesco Arcarese, a guest of an elementary school in Rome, has tried to convey to students enormous potential and importance of this powerful medium. Children have learned to break into big problems in smaller issues, look for models, create step-by-step plans and think out of the schemes.

“Programming is like poetry, because it allows you to create a universe from nothing” … so, using fantasy and creativity, we can teach children to love computer science!
